How pricing works
What changes the number, and when you see it
We don't post prices because the house sets them. Here is how an estimate is built, in the order people ask.
What sets the price
Two houses with the same job can cost different amounts. These are the things that move it.
Open attic or finished wall
How far the new wire runs from the panel
The age and condition of the wiring already there
Whether the panel has room for another circuit
Permit and inspection fees
What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't
The estimate is written, lists the work in plain words and says how many days it stands.
Included: labor, standard parts and cleanup
Included: the permit, passed through at cost
Not included: drywall repair and paint
Not included: fixtures you supply
What happens at the visit
One electrician comes in the window Laurie gave you and looks at the work. We don't name a price from the doorway for anything that needs a look inside. We tell you the visit fee when you book, and if you go ahead the fee comes off the job.
After hours
We don't run a night line, so there is no night rate. We answer Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and book Saturdays by appointment. For fire, call 911.
When you get the number
Before any work starts, in writing. Small repairs are quoted as one job. Larger work gets a written estimate after a load check.
If the job changes
If we find something we didn't expect, we stop and show you. A change is written down, you approve it, and then we do it. Nothing is added at the end.
The written estimate
You sign for the work, not for a guess
Every estimate lists the work, what is in the price, what isn't and how long it stands. If a permit is needed, it is a line of its own. You can say no after reading it.

What is and isn't in the price
The permit and the power company, as their own lines

Price questions
Why don't you list prices?
A panel in an open basement and a panel behind a finished wall are different jobs. We would rather show you a number that is true for your house.
Is the visit fee credited?
If you go ahead with the work, the fee comes off the job. We tell you the amount when you book.
How do I pay?
When the work is done and you have walked through it. The estimate lists what we accept.
